When the Well Runs Dry – Dealing with dryness in prayer
Friday, September 18, 2026 – 10:00 am – 12:00 Noon
Presenter: Sister Mary Clark, OSB
Dryness in prayer—times when prayer feels empty, distracted, or fruitless—is a common experience shared by beginners and saints alike. This presentation explores what spiritual dryness is, why it occurs, and how it can become a place of growth rather than discouragement. Drawing on wisdom from saints who experienced a dark night, alongside insights and experience from ordinary people of faith, the talk offers practical, hope-filled guidance. Topics include persevering without consolation, difficulties in prayer, trusting God’s presence beyond feelings, and others. Participants will leave reassured that dryness is not failure, but often a quiet invitation to deeper faith, humility, and trust. *This title (and many of the tips) come from the book of the same name written by Fr. Tom Green, SJ, a popular spiritual director and author of spiritual books.
