March 2021 – The Roof Above

It seems like work is progressing very quickly now! Framing, roof trusses, walls, and now roof — It’s beginning to look like a real place. We are ever grateful for the care and diligence of Trinity Construction and their contractors. While the outdoor work is being done, decisions are being made regarding equipment we will need: refrigerators, ovens, security systems, lighting. Because this is considered a public building, everything – EVERY little thing seems to have a code it must adhere to.

Perhaps the most startling revelation of just how real this project is: two of our stained glass windows in our present chapel were removed by Washington Art Glass, and fiberboard now covers those frames. The two windows were test cases; nothing in our present building is ever easy, and since the Benedictine windows will be relocated to the new chapel, templates for the new framework needed to be made. Needless-to-say, our stained glass windows are priceless to us! They tell the ancient story of who we are as a Benedictine community. Please help us preserve them!
